Where are your products made?
DALCINI™ Stainless products are ethically made in India with the skilled craftsmanship in a family run manufacturing facility.
Is ‘stainless steel’ the same as ‘steel’?
No. While both are alloys known for their strength, stainless steel is considerably more expensive because of its many added benefits. Stainless steel is most revered for its non-corrosive, non-staining, non-porous, and antibacterial properties. There are different grades of stainless steel for use in different applications. At DALCINI™, we use FDA and EU-compliant food-grade stainless steel.
What is the benefit of having 'seamless' containers?
When there are seams, there are chemical adhesives used to join them. There is also an epoxy resin coating applied to protect the food contents from coming in contact with it. Those chemicals often include lead, Bisphenol A and other chemicals toxic to human health and the environment. A seamless interior eliminates the introduction of toxic chemicals, and also eliminates the ridged surface where food bacteria loves to hide.
Are DALCINI™ Stainless containers dishwasher safe? I have other stainless steel products and they are "hand wash only".
Yes. All of our products are dishwasher safe. There are many reasons why some stainless steel products are hand wash only, or "not recommended" for the dishwasher. It may be to protect the exterior paint finish, to protect the chemical resins that leach when heated, or it may be because of the interior seam that weakens with heat. It could be because of the non-dishwasher safe parts such as the clasps, lids, seals, straws. We wanted safe, but we also wanted simple, so go ahead and drop them in the dishwasher!
Can they go in the refrigerator? microwave?
Refrigerator- Yes. The containers are excellent for storing all types of food, including the most fragrant or acidic foods. No more tomato stains or lingering food odors from traditional containers.
Microwave- No. These are metal products and should not be used in a microwave. They can, however, go in an oven up to 450 degrees F. You'll likely want to reheat at about 350degrees. Unlike glass or ceramic, stainless steel heats up rapidly.
Are the containers leakproof?
The containers have a tight seal; however, they are not designed for liquids such as soup. They are ideal for dry contents such as cheese, crackers, fruit etc. When using thicker contents such as yogurt, we recommend using lunch bags that hold the contents upright to minimize any risk of a leak.
I hear the term 18/8 stainless steel. What does it mean? Are yours 18/8?
Yes. Stainless steel is an alloy, meaning it is a mix of metals. 18/8 is a simplistic classification that indicates only 2 of them many ingredients in the stainless steel. ie 18/8 refers to 18% chromium 8% nickel, which is good, but leaves out the other 74% in the mix. Stainless steel experts use a more robust classification system that itemizes the ingredients that make up the alloy.
We use 200 and 300 series, which is US FDA and EU food contact compliant stainless steel.
How do I wash DALCINI™ Stainless containers?
DALCINI™ Stainless products can be hand-washed or put in the dishwasher top or bottom rack.
Can DALCINI™ Stainless containers go in the oven?
Yes, the products can go in the oven up to 450 degrees. Our stainless steel products do heat up rapidly so we recommend reducing the temperature compared to cooking with glass.
Is this product suitable for kids?
Yes, these products are suitable for all ages. Made easy to open for kids at school, but still with a tight seal. They are great for school, work and for storing leftovers in the fridge or freezer. These products are not made for liquids like soup. Ideal for dry contents and should be stored upright if thicker liquids are inside, ie yogurt.
Will the product tarnish with acidic or high fat foods?
No.
Can they be used in the freezer?
Yes.
Great for storing home made ice cream, leftovers, frozen berries. Do not over fill.
Why does my DALCINI™ Stainless container have slight imperfections?
Minor imperfections are a reflection of a natural product skillfully made by hand, using tools, clamps and manual buffing techniques. This quality over quantity process ensures a clean end product that is not mass produced, synthetic coated, chemically dipped for shine. The clean, non-coated surface is also what allows our products to be dishwasher, oven and freezer safe.
DALCINI™ Stainless sustainability profile.
The DALCINI™ Stainless containers are infinitely recyclable unlike plastic, glass which have 5-7 recycles. Stainless steal is melted down, formed into sheets and reformed into new products.
Is this product heavy?
No, it is lighter than glass items of similar size.
What markers can I use on the containers?
Washable, dry erase, and chalk markers works well. We recommend deeper pigmented markers for best visibility.
Why are there minor surface scratches on the containers?
The containers are all manually buffed and not chemically dipped for shine.
Are the DALCINI™ containers suitable for families concerned with allergies?
Yes, many families managing allergies are concerned about cross-contamination between foods. With DALCINI™ there is no risk of food particles being absorbed. Once its cleaned, there is no risk of cross-contamination.
Do the containers leave a metallic taste?
No, the DALCINI™ Stainless containers do not leave a metal taste. Metallic taste comes from aluminum or when aluminum is mixed with stainless steel. At DALCINI™ Stainless our containers are made without aluminum.
How are the DALCINI™ Stainless containers different?
